As the standard for robot positioning and navigation, laser radar plays an important role in helping robots to walk autonomously. As a sensor mainly used for laser ranging, data such as measurement distance, scanning frequency, angular resolution and measurement accuracy must be important indicators for most people to measure. In addition, there are many other indicators. Two very important but rarely noticed indicators are also important factors to consider when selecting a product.
1. Detection rate of dark objects
In the actual work scene, in addition to the white wall, there are many dark objects, such as furniture, dark wallpaper and so on. At this time, it is particularly important for the laser ranging sensor (lidar) to detect dark objects smoothly. Otherwise, it is easy to cause problems in the positioning and mapping of the robot, and it will affect the work of the robot in the future. important influence.
2. Ambient light anti-interference ability
In addition to the ability to detect dark objects, robots are also affected by various ambient lighting in the actual environment. Sunlight projected from outside the window, artificial light sources in the room, and even work environments exposed directly outside can interfere with the lidar.
Interference from ambient light can cause noise in the lidar and affect its use. Generally, ambient light interference has the following two forms:
(1). Noise generated by local interference sources: Some artificial light sources in the picture may cause ranging interference, and sunlight incident from the outside through the window may interfere with a certain measurement angle.
(2). Blindness and noise caused by global ambient light interference: This kind of situation generally occurs in outdoor situations. Due to the strong background illumination of the environment as a whole, the laser radar may cause interference in all directions.
At the same time, it may also result in a shorter effective measurement distance of the radar or a complete measurement of the distance.
